Types of wild boar hunting

 

A wild boar is a kind of trophy every hunter dreams about. Killing one is a great challenge, which increases its value manifold. Wild boar hunting requires specific skills and experience, and it is quite an extraordinary entertainment for true zealots. 

A patch near woods or a swamp overgrown with reed is believed to be the best place for boar hunting. Ideally, you should choose a thickly vegetated site. Wild boar like to bathe even on a frosty day. Therefore, you are most likely to spot one near puddles and water bodies. Boar hunting in winter requires perfect reaction and straight shooting, because wild boar hides in densely overgrown places, which block visibility and often necessitate snap-shooting. Because wild boar is a migratory animal and does not tend to use once trodden paths, dogs can help you catch one. Wild boar are die-hard, and even a wounded animal can attack. It is absolutely imperative that you ensure that the animal is dead before approaching it. You are more likely to hit it if you shoot at a 90-degree angle from at most 40 m.

In summer, wild boar hunting is possible both at day and at night. It is advisable to stalk a boar at feeding sites. It disguises itself by characteristic sounds (grunting and champing), which won’t let it hear a man approach. These animals have a very keen nose, so hunters must quietly come in from the downwind side. Once it suspects a threat, it will stop feeding immediately. In this case it is recommended to wait until the animal starts feeding again and fire a shot. If you find one sleeping in its daytime nest, you can get pretty close to it. However, boars stay alert even while sleeping and may run away if they feel danger.

In autumn and, for the most part, in winter, the boar is hunted at daytime by way of driving with dogs. Shooting is allowed only when visibility is perfect. In case an animal breaks through and crosses the line, driving continues only after all hunters get together.

Hunting wild boar in spring raises particular difficulties, because the wild boar is quite intelligent, very strong and brave, and its footprints are no longer visible. However, in our hunting reserve there are feeding sites, which are frequented by boars. Therefore, driving wild boar in our reserve is very common and effective.

Wild boar hunting – by driving, from a tower, or from a blind in a feeding field, is not quite so easy. The process poses a degree of risk and therefore is suitable for macho hunters only. For better result, it is advisable to team up with guys just as infinitely brave, as well as learn to shoot well. Under no circumstances should one panic! Wild boar hunting poses danger and requires extreme caution.
