A hunt with a Laika dog will not only provide you a much-craved-for trophy that is a bear skin, but also teach your dogs some special things. Dog-hunting is organized in the following way: by chaining a previously captured bear and letting dogs chase it and show the best of what they can do: fearlessly attack the animal, grab it by the ears, tail, and sides, and keep the bear in until the hunter arrives. This method will teach a dog to understand the rules of handling bears; otherwise, the bear may kill it instantly.
The idea of hunting bear in the den, which takes place in winter, consists in getting close to the den and prodding the sleeping bear up with a long stick. Many hunters use dogs whose barking ruins its peaceful sleep. Once the bear gets furious and climbs out of its den, the hunter should summon up all his skills and fire a dead shot. Mostly, such hunts end successfully, although it looks cruel. Once a sleepy bear gets out of its shelter, it faces a situation when it has to choose between getting killed and trying to run away. There is little chance the latter will end successfully.
Hunting bears from blinds is most effective in late summer and is in a way similar to hunting on oats. A hunter should stalk a bear in a place where it has stashed its food (a partially eaten moose, cow, deer, etc.) It takes quite a bit of time to stalk and shoot a bear near its “pantry”. Once hunters find an abandoned carcass, they build a tree stand and there wait. At this point, the most important thing is to stay calm and hit the mark.
Hunting bears in swampy areas, where teddies often go for a snack, is also a popular method. Once a hunter spots a feeding site, he builds a tree stand, gets inside and waits until a bear comes around to eat. A feeding bear should be shot in the side. Because a wounded animal may attack a hunter, it is strongly recommended to aim for the head. A properly organized hunt takes a lot of effort, but it is also an exciting adventure, which brings tons of pleasure.
