Duck hunting in the Tver Province

You can hunt ducks in spring both individually and with a team. Most hunts end successfully. It should be remembered that in spring hunters should pay special attention to camouflaging. Our specialists recommend using a hider with an open top. It will be an excellent alternative to a tree stand. Besides, it provides a chance to shoot not only landing ducks, but also those flying in a pack. It is better to charge a rifle with shot size #6 or #7.

In spring, only drakes are hunted. If you know the tricks of this sort of hunting, you will definitely succeed and be really happy.

Voice is definitely the main advantage of a decoy duck. However, if you do not have one, you can use a duck call or dummy. Although using a decoy duck is exciting and effective, it requires an investment, and keeping fowl is not affordable for everyone. Therefore, many hunters prefer to use dummies, as you can buy one at any hunting store. Rubber, plastic, and wooden dummies are used in spring. The latter can be crafted at home, and, even though wooden dummy tend to be pretty heavyweight, they do the job quite well and are no less effective than plastic or rubber ones.

Many of those who hunt in spring combine dummies and decoys and thus attract more birds. However, this strategy sets up one major rule: first a dummy, next a decoy. Otherwise, the decoy duck can attract drakes too early and ruin your hunt. If you are using a decoy duck, under no circumstances should you shoot birds in flight. If you do, you may hit a duck instead of a drake. Once you see a drake, do not hesitate, or it will see you and get away in seconds without leaving you a chance.

Hunting migrating birds is also exciting, and you should calculate directions prior to hunting. Once you map a migration route, get a camouflage suit on and take an organized position about thirty minutes before sunset. It is advisable to get closer to a river or lake or find an island in the middle of it. Cover up in reed, use branches, and be very careful. It is better to fire crossing or flushing shots without leaving the shelter.

Stalking begins in summer and continues until birds begin to migrate to their winter grounds. This method is hugely popular, because it is very effective and does not necessitate waiting. It is possible to hunt near any shallow and overgrown lake or river. As you move around the site, you force birds to fly up and shoot one right away.
